JP Vocal Studio

Lesson Cancellation Policy

24 hours notice is required for any rescheduling requests.  Forgetting to attend a lesson results in forfeiting that lesson.

NEW Cancellation Policy

When a situation arises where a student cannot make it to the studio due to bad weather, not having a ride, or isn’t feeling well, the student should notify the teacher and have their lesson via video call (Zoom). I will initiate the call at the time of the lesson. Moving forward, make-up lessons will not be offered for lesson cancellations but video lessons should be used as an alternative during the scheduled lesson time. I’m thrilled to offer online lessons as it will enable more students to attend a lesson online when they have circumstances when they cannot make it to the studio in-person. Online lessons are an amazing alternative and a highly effective way to have a lesson with me!

Here is what the student should have ready for their online lesson:

  • Zoom software download to computer
  • Laptop or tablet
  • Lesson materials (including pencil)

*Use a tall stool, bookshelf or table to position your device.  For singing students, I should be able to see the student from the waist up, standing.

Please note that there are no refunds on lessons. JP Vocal Studio guarantees makeup lessons for any cancellations the teacher makes due to illness or personal emergency.

Lesson Expectations

Students are expected to come to their lessons prepared with the following:

  • Lesson Notebook (or paper in binder)
  • Music binder
  • Assigned books
  • Pencil (*no pens, please)
  • Water Bottle
  • Digital voice recorder (smart phone voice memo works great!)

Singing students are required to record their lessons for practising purposes.  JP Vocal Studio will also provide resources to assist in practice at home.

JP Vocal Studio aims to provide a well-rounded music education. Lessons will include technique, theory, ear and sight training, and practical application through a variety of musical styles.

Practice Expectations

Students are expected to practice 5-6 days a week for 15-30 minutes a day. Beginners start at 15 minutes per day and slowly increase to 30 minutes as they progress. Advanced students may find they are practising up to 60 minutes.

Lesson Fees & Payment

Student packages are calculated on the number of lessons over a term period (10-15 weeks). Payment is divided into equal monthly payments and invoiced to the student/parent prior to the start of the term. Payments are due on the 1st of each month or at the 1st lesson of a Flex package.  There will be a $15 penalty fee for late payments.  This is in place to avoid chasing after payments.

JP Vocal Studio accepts the following forms of payment:

  • Bank Transfer (preferred)
  • Cash
  • Cheque (to Julie Pearson)

If in the event a cheque bounces, the payee is responsible to pay any bank fees (both banks may charge a fee) and to ensure lesson fees are paid in full.

Additional Fees

Students can expect to invest $20-40 per term in music resources. Participating in music exams and festivals will required additional fees and vary depending on the event.

Performing Opportunities

JP Vocal Studio aims to provide at least one performing experience per term. Performing opportunities may include music festivals, talent shows, competitions, coffee house concerts, local events, recording session or recital.

We strongly encourage students to work toward performing as it sets goals, builds confidence and gives a sense of accomplishment in the skills gained throughout the term.

Thank you for adhering to all of our studio policies as it enables me to be an effective and prepared teacher for your student!
